Perfect Bound
Perfect binding is the most common binding method used for paper-back novels. It is a process of using only glue to hold every leaf or page together with the cover.

Limp Sewn
Limp sewing is considered the strongest of the soft covered varieties. Generally reserved for educational text books, high quality coffee table books and other books that need to sit flat or those that will be exposed to repetitive use and abuse. This method of binding uses traditional thread to literally sew folded sections of the book together, prior to gluing a cover on over teh top of the sewn book block.
Hard covered Books - Square & round Back
Square backed hard covered books are exactly what the name suggests. The have a square "Spine" and the front back and spine are very "hard", usually around 3mm think. This method of binding is traditionally used for higher quality and some first release novels.
The method of holding the pages together in these hard covered books are very similar to those used in soft covered books. Perfect binding, section sewing and saddle-stitching can all be used to hold the pages together. An "End Paper" is then used to act as the joiner between the book block and the hard cover.
